November 23, 2023: After our zodiac ride at Kinner Cove on the western end of Joinville Island, we sailed south along the coast and turned into the passage between Joinville and Dundee Islands.
We could see penguin rookeries along the shore but could not get there because of pack ice. Captain Neto eased World Navigator into the ice before stopping. Clear water on the side of the vessel allowed for the launching of the zodiacs so we went on a zodiac ride around the edge of the pack ice and across the passage toward the Argentine Base Petrel. Our driver/guide, Alejandro, managed to find passages through the pack ice so we could view penguins that were resting on the ice.
This outing occurred while we were aboard Atlas Ocean Voyages' World Navigator on the 20 November 2023, 9-day cruise out of Ushuaia to Antarctica.
