China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) is officially opening in Beijing on March 5, 2025. Thousands of members of the political elite and lawmakers have gathered in the capital for the annual “two sessions”, where the NPC and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will set the stage for China’s 2025 policy playbook. The country has seen sluggish domestic demand, deflationary pressures, a prolonged property sector downturn and heightened US-China trade tensions. Authorities are expected to outline major economic targets and policy priorities to help the country navigate the mounting challenges.
