Boko Charts ‘True North’ for Botswana’s Economic Future

President Duma Gideon Boko has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to driving Botswana’s transformation through the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), describing it as a blueprint for the nation’s development.

Speaking at the Leadership Syndication for BETP, President Boko highlighted that the programme’s labs aim to refine strategies and align them with national aspirations. He emphasized the concept of “True North” – a vision of a high-income Botswana that is digitally enabled, export-driven, people-focused, and economically diverse.

According to the President, the Financial Services and Digitalisation Lab has mapped the country’s digital ecosystem, proposing reforms to create an inclusive, secure, and modernized economy. Meanwhile, the Agriculture Lab has identified bankable projects targeting import substitution, export growth, food security, and job creation.

Boko called on leaders to remain accountable, united, and delivery-focused, stressing that transformation is a necessity, not a choice. He reminded his Cabinet that leadership will be measured solely by their ability to deliver on this ambitious agenda.

The President underscored that the ultimate goal is a Botswana where every citizen enjoys equal opportunity, is empowered, and lives a fulfilling life. Transformation, he said, must become a shared national mission driven by collaboration between government, private sector, and communities.
