Join us on this peaceful walk through Thurstaston Common on Wirral where we endeavour to find Thor's Stone! This area has a fascinating Viking history and many of the place names across Wirral reflect this. For example 'Thurstaston' means "village of a man called Thorsteinn". Thor's stone is a natural geological formation made from the iconic soft red sandstone of Wirral. The stone is steeped in local legend and folklore linked to the Viking God Thor. Some suggest that the stone was used as a place of Viking worship or pagan rituals. Historically Vikings did settle on Wirral around the 9th and 10th centuries and have left their legacy.
