On 3rd May 1969 British Railways ran their final passenger trains on the Great Central route between Rugby and Nottingham (Arkwright Street). These trains were diesel multiple units (DMUs).
On Friday 3rd May 2019, 50 years to the day later, the two DMU sets owned by Renaissance Railcars Ltd (a volunteer group at the preserved Great Central Railway) were run together for the first time to commemorate that fateful day 50 years earlier. This was the very first day in traffic for the newly restored two-car set in BR blue livery. This short film is a tribute to the hard work put in by the volunteer team to get both of these trains prepared for this event.
