Having a strong core/abs is essential for runners, but why do you need them?
Strong abs increase the stability of your hips, pelvis, and your knees during running. This leads to less strain on your muscles and connective tissues and consequently less risk of injuries. It's also more economical by minimizing wasteful movements (too much rotation in your midsection) which makes your stride more efficient, so you can run faster, and longer.
For this workout, you need a light to medium mini-band and a workout mat. Each exercise lasts for 45 seconds with a 15 seconds rest. The entire workout has two sets with a 30-second rest between sets. The second set is a bit different than the first one, so watch closely til the end 😉.
Some tips for the exercises:
When lying on your back make sure you tuck your pelvis under so your lower back is flat on the floor.
Squeeze your abs when rotating as much as you can.
Take care of your neck by keeping your gaze between your hands (plank position) or to your knees (on the back).
