Painting Class Lesson #2 Oil Painting Demonstration Still Life

In this demonstration I put into practice what I taught in the lesson. I am painting with oils on a simple canvas board with just one brush, a #6 synthetic bristle filbert, and earth colors titanium white, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, and just a touch of viridian. I plan to work only a little more on the demonstration canvases with a little glazing to liven them up once they are dry to the touch. The important thing I wanted to do is to show my thought processes on a canvas and bring a painting to near completion.

I hope the demonstration and narration is interesting, informative, and maybe even a bit entertaining.

For your own practice I suggest you use objects from your own environment: mugs, bowls, vases, bottles, simple shapes sorts of things. (Please don't choose complicated shapes for your early practice as proportions and hidden shapes are easier to learn with simple objects.) You are always welcome to screen-shot any images that I share.

Painting is a Visual Language. When learning a verbal language you want to speak it isn't necessary to conjugate verbs right away. When learning a visual language it isn't necessary to learn color theory right away. I propose that you start right away by learning to see so you can express what you choose for others to see in your art. I intend to share a lot about the Visual Language in this series and how to express it in your art in the way YOU choose to express it.
