Hiking on Mount Menalon, Greece | The Untouched Elati - Libovitsi Trail

I hiked the Elati → Libovitsi trail in the Menalon mountains of Arcadia, Greece — a route filled with forest, meadows, and traces of history at every step. This is my full hiking in Greece experience from start to finish, exploring one of the most scenic Peloponnese hiking trails.

🗺️ Trail Summary
The hike starts just behind the church of Zoodochos Pigi, about 2 km after Elati on the way to Chrysovitsi. At first, I followed the yellow trail signs, then turned left onto the blue-marked path. The route winds through a dense forest of fir and black pine, across open meadows and small plateaus, with easy changes in elevation that keep it interesting. After around 3 hours and 15 minutes, I reached the “Navarino saddle,” where the trail meets a paved road leading 2 km to Libovitsi.

From there, the path continues upward, now marked with both blue and red signs, passing steep rock formations before reaching Kolokotroneika limeria — a place with deep historical roots in Arcadia. After a short rest, I descended back toward Libovitsi.

Total time on trail: about 5 hours.

📌 Tips & notes

Bring plenty of water and snacks — the forested parts are long and remote.

Wear sturdy hiking boots with good grip, especially for rocky sections.

A GPS or map is useful even though the route is well-marked.

Start early to enjoy the light and have time for photo stops.

Respect both nature and the historic sites along the way.
