the –75°C blizzard tightens its grip on the remote cliffside where an elderly Yakut couple struggles to survive. After the terrifying night when a bear approached the cave entrance, Yura steps out at dawn to inspect the livestock. What he finds sets the tone for the entire episode: one of their cattle is missing, the snow around the pen is torn apart, and a long drag trail leads down the mountainside. Fresh wolf tracks mix with the drag marks—clear evidence that a pack moved through the area during the night.

While Yura investigates outside, Nana remains inside the stone cave, strengthening the smoke furnace to repel predators and to send a thick stream of smoke into the storm—her silent way of supporting Yura from afar.

Yura follows the fading trail deep into the blizzard. The wind cuts across the slope like knives, the snow grows heavier, and visibility drops to only a few meters. Eventually, the drag marks vanish completely under the relentless whiteout, leaving Yura alone in a swirling void of snow and wind.

Then he hears it: a low, distant growl carried by the storm.

Shadows begin to emerge from the blizzard. A pack of wolves—three to six—circles him in a wide arc, their eyes glowing pale green whenever the torchlight catches them. Exhausted but alive, Yura fights his way back through the blizzard. Nana opens the cave door and pulls him inside, returning him to the faint warmth of the fire.
