Unlike many cultures that shape the land through agriculture, the Punans of Borneo do not seek to tame their environment. Instead, they live in harmony with the jungle, taking only what they need to survive.

This way of life has shielded them from famine and allowed them to thrive in one of the world’s most demanding ecosystems.

To hunt in the dense rainforest, the Punans have developed ingenious techniques. Their prey is small, elusive, and often hidden high in the treetops. To reach it, they created a weapon that is powerful, precise, and silent: the blowpipe.

Madjat carefully coats the tips of his darts with a deadly poison made from strychnine — potent enough to bring down a man. Handling it requires extreme caution.

Even though Saloun is already a skilled hunter, he observes every move his father makes — because in the jungle, survival is passed down from one generation to the next.
