What is design? Is it merely cosmetic? Or is it where art and science meet?
Join Singanapalli Balaram as he explores these ideas with a focus on a national award winning gas stove — which is as elegant as it is fuel efficient. Through his lecture on the stove and other objects, he recounts how a devastating global crisis brought together the National Institute of Design and the Indian Institute of Petroleum to create solutions.
Singanapalli Balaram received his training as a mechanical engineer who then became a designer and professor of industrial design. He has designed and patented several award winning products and has authored many papers and books on design. He is one of the pioneers in Indian design and design education in India, at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
This reading and public lecture was organised as part of Science Gallery Bengaluru's 7th exhibition-season Sci560. Sci560 is supported by Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies.
