Pendant la WW1 : Lijssenthoek était situé sur la principale ligne de communication entre les bases militaires alliées à l’arrière et les champs de bataille d’Ypres. Près du front, mais hors de portée de la plupart des artilleries de campagne allemandes, il est devenu un endroit naturel pour établir des postes d’évacuation des blessés.
Le cimetière a été utilisé pour la première fois par le 15e hôpital d’évacuation français et, en juin 1915, il a commencé à être utilisé par les postes d’évacuation des blessés des forces du Commonwealth.
During the First World War, the village of Lijssenthoek was situated on the main communication line between the Allied military bases in the rear and the Ypres battlefields. Close to the Front, but out of the extreme range of most German field artillery, it became a natural place to establish casualty clearing stations.
The cemetery was first used by the French 15th Hospital Evacuation and in June 1915, it began to be used by casualty clearing stations of the Commonwealth forces.
