About this video: On the weekend of July 12 and 13, 2025, the MBTA used the windows between passenger trains on the already reduced weekend schedule on the Dorchester Branch (Fairmount Line) to operate a continuous welded rail train tasked with dropping off rails along the number one track, where they would eventually be installed, replacing the very rails this train was operating on. All of the rails on this line were planned to be replaced in 2025 in preparation for future service expansion on this section of track. The separate train that dropped off rail for track two operated in April of 2025, a train that I was also able to get footage of ( • Long MBTA Commuter Rail Welded Rail Train ... ). As for July’s train (which I filmed on Sunday the 13th), I started at Newmarket station where they finished up dropping rail heading north, before I leapfrogged them to Uphams Corner, Talbot Avenue, and Fairmount on their shove move back south to the Readville area where the train would be tied down and eventually taken back west by CSX.
