It has been a dream of mine to return to Silver Springs after I had been here many years ago. It is still as beautiful as it was then. The clear blue water lets you watch fish and turtles swim by. Turtles and alligators sun themselves on the banks of the river. Various birds allow you to get close because they are used to seeing tourists. The most remarkable part of this trip was seeing manatees, however. They glided effortlessly in the water and were not afraid of kayakers paddling right next to them. When finally heading to Mammoth Spring at the head of the river, you realize how much water flows here. Only a few other springs in the US and the world come close.
