On June 17, 1876, the Battle of Rosebud became one of the most pivotal yet forgotten clashes of the Great Sioux War.
General George Crook led nearly 1,300 U.S. soldiers and Crow scouts into the valley—only to be met by over 1,500 Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne warriors led by Crazy Horse.
For six brutal hours, the valley thundered with rifle fire, arrows, and war cries. Crook’s line wavered under relentless charges, and although the battle ended without a clear victor, the U.S. Army was forced to retreat. This setback meant Crook could not join forces with Custer—leading directly to the infamous disaster at Little Bighorn just one week later.
This documentary explores the forgotten story of Rosebud: the strategies, the chaos, the bloodshed, and how Crazy Horse’s leadership shaped one of the most important Native American victories in history.
