[PS05] Take Refuge in the Lord (Psalm 5) Pastor Andy Craig

If you’re searching for a faith that holds up under pressure and anchors you in hope, David’s prayer in Psalm 5 offers a clear path forward. In this sermon, Pastor Andy shows us that true spirituality is not something we may invent or conjure from thin air, but rather has four characteristics: 1) True spirituality truly prays, calling on God with expectation. 2) True spirituality knows the God to whom it prays—a holy, just, and righteous King who acts against evil. 3) True spirituality has true desires, rather than desires only escape from trouble. 4) True spirituality has the best results: refuge, joy, protection, and blessing in the Lord. In summary, God’s people find hope not in feelings or self-made religion, but in trusting the God who has spoken.

The thumbnails for the book of Psalms are based on the picture given to us in Psalm 1 of the righteous man’s “being like a tree planted by streams of water” (v. 3 ESV). As Pastor Andy mentioned in his first message on the book of Psalms, “some traditions regard Psalm 2 as Psalm 1 and Psalm 1 as the preface to the whole book.” It is thus fitting that the series thumbnails should portray this image, for teaching throughout the Psalms will serve towards keeping us firmly rooted in God's Word.
