Trackmania 2020 is the first game in the series that I had success with the online mode because of it's clean interface and active player base. I understand the appeal of the online mode now, even if I still prefer beating my own times. The online is super entertaining seeing everyone side by side against you and hoping you don't crash around the next turn.
Even though this game only has one car compared to Trackmania Turbos four, this game appeals to a different type of player. By keeping the game centered around one car they were able to bring in and flush out old and new ideas. Understanding all the subtle mechanics is the key to getting fast times and what kept me addicted to racing a track until I got the gold medal.
