Come along for a short loop hike in Mohican State Park. Located in Southern Ashland County, Ohio.
Our route starts at the covered bridge, follows the Clear Fork of the Mohican River, and climbs the Pleasant Hill Dam to provide a view of Pleasant Hill Lake. We then walk back into the trees to walk along sandstone rock formations to the brink and base of two picturesque waterfalls. The trail then finds its way back to the river for a short tree covered path to the trailhead.
The trail can be rocky, steep, and root laden in places, so wear proper footwear and bring along water/snacks just in case.
The waterfalls on this trail -- Big and Little Lyons Falls -- will vary in how much water is falling depending on the time of year. After heavy spring rains they can throw an impressive amount of water but in a dry summer they might slow to no more than a trickle.
I use the trails in this (and other) parks in Ohio to train for longer backpacking trips out west/in the Yellowstone region. If you see me carrying a big pack in the video or on the trail I probably have 50+lbs. of dumb bells and brick pavers in it -- so forgive me if I look tired!
