"A sprat to catch a mackerel" Paris France 1858 Daniel Harrwitz v Paul Morphy

Hi people, this time we are travelling back to 1858. Paul Morphy, in the previous year, had won the 1st chess Congress in New York America and
decided to travel to Europe to challenge the chess masters there, as they were thought to be the best in the world at this time . He came to London to challenge Howard Staunton but was unable to secure a match (but that's a whole different story).Having not played Staunton, Morphy travelled to France to challenge Daniel Harrwitz, the second best player in Europe .The Cafe da le Régence in paris was a famous chess venue, where morphy would find Harrwitz .At first, Harrwitz refused to have a match with Morphy, thinking that he was too young and not experienced enough.
But Paul Morphy asked if they could discuss it over a casual chess game .Harrwitz agreed, and over the course of the game, terms were negotiated .Paul Morphy lost this first game. Was it deliberat ?Well, it probably helped ease the match arranging.
The match winner would be the one who won seven games, no draws to count, and a prize pot of 295 francs was also agreed . The first game was set to take place on the 1st of September at the Cafe da le Régence .
