The moment you step onto Shinjuku 4-Chome intersection, the rush of modern life prickles your skin. Countless wheels scrape the asphalt along Koshu Kaido, and the walls of gigantic buildings narrow the skyline. Beneath this hustle and bustle lie layers of old flophouse districts and ancient memories. Continue walking toward Raiden Inari Shrine, awaiting reconstruction as a temporary shrine. Legend has it that Minamoto no Yoshiie stopped here around 1100 AD on his way to conquering Oshu. Even within its humble ambiance, the ancient atmosphere of a place where warriors offered prayers still permeates. Further along, you'll find the prestigious Tenryu-ji Temple, founded in 1582 to protect the unlucky side of Edo. Surrounded by buildings, the area still retains the scent of the abundant groundwater that once fed the Shibuya River, and a hand pump speaks of its former abundance. You can't help but feel the weight of the years that have passed in the main hall, engraved with the hollyhock crest associated with the Tokugawa Shogunate, and the missing fingertip of the Jizo statue, which bears an inscription from the An'ei era. The Time Bell, one of Edo's three most famous bells, deepens the silence of the city instead of ticking away the time as it once did. We ask you to quietly draw your heart towards the lingering echoes of the bell as seen in the video. Even from afar, the feeling of touching the prayers that the land has continued to protect is sure to bring a certain peace of mind within you. At the end of a journey that crosses the boundaries of the past, a simple wind blows through.
