Turning to draw, drawing to turn. Like you, I can't draw either but I do it all the time anyway.
Box turner John Kelsey shares basic drawing hacks that take some of the risk out of lathe-turning small end-grain boxes. Hacks include making and using block templates, drawing around the actual turning block, making a practice piece to work out the external details, sawing the practice piece in half so you can draw around its contour and from that, work out the interior of the box before you go to the lathe. Also using templates to find the turning blank you want inside the lump of timber that you have, and drawing finished pieces by tracing their shadows and smoothing out with a French curve.
These hacks will help woodturners improve their turning skills. Drawing and turning practice produces better results once you turn to the good wood - you've already solved the problems and worked out the mysteries.
