Let’s talk about what causes a metallic taste in your mouth. There are seven reasons why this happens:

1. Chemotherapy
2. Medications, especially antibiotics. There are so many chemicals in medications.
3. Pregnancy
4. Synthetic vitamins; when you buy vitamins from a drug store (not a health food store), chances are they’re synthetic, plus you get minerals that aren’t from food. I don’t recommend synthetic vitamins unless you’re doing a short-term cleanse or detox.
5. Heavy metals like mercury or cadmium from the types of fish you’re consuming such as shark, swordfish, marlin, or tuna. Make sure you eat skipjack tuna, the light version, not albacore in a can. You’d be better off eating salmon in the can. Tuna has three times as much mercury as some of the other fish. But other fish also have selenium, which helps detox mercury. Also, reevaluate your cookware and stop cooking in iron skillets. Tap water is loaded with chemicals, not just chlorine and fluoride. Get a good filter.
6. Pesticides, because you’re not consuming organic food. Non-organic food is loaded with pesticides and insecticides that you can actually taste once they’re in your body.
7. Zinc deficiency is the primary reason you have a metallic taste in your mouth. If you’re severely deficient in zinc you’ll lose your sense of taste and smell. But a lesser or subclinical zinc deficiency will alter your taste so you experience a metallic taste. Chemotherapy depletes your zinc, as do certain medications and pregnancy.

If a woman is pregnant and not eating the right foods she’ll become deficient in zinc, because of the demands the fetus puts on her body. If she’s consuming too many carbohydrates and refined sugars she could become zinc deficient. She should consume more seafood.
