It illustrates at what stage the subject stands in the process of the action at the time of speech.


1. Verb dictionary form + ところです
""Be about to do…"
It indicates that the situation is right before the action will be performed."
 
田中さんはご飯（はん）を
食べるところです。

田中さんはいまからご飯（はん）を
食べるところです。

私はこれから買（か）い物（もの）に
行（い）くところです。

勉強（べんきょう）しなさい！
今からするところ！

 
2. Verb - ている+ ところです
""Be in the middle of…"
It indicates that an action is in progress."
 
田中さんは今（いま）ご飯（はん）を
食べているところです。

今（いま）勉強（べんきょう）しているところです。

3. Verb - たform + ところです
""Just did..."
It indicates that an action was completed just a moment ago. It does not necessarily mean that the time of the statement is immediately after the action."
 
たった今ご飯（はん）を食べたところです。

さっき家（いえ）を出（で）たところです。


今から日本へ行くところです。
今飛行機（ひこうき）に乗（の）っているところです。
さっき日本に着（つ）いたところです。
