The Copper Country has the largest deposit of native copper in the world. Mr. Schriver will talk about how copper was mined and the associated minerals that rockhounds love to collect.
George Schriver received a BS in Geology and an MS in Petrology from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. "An enthusiastic advocate for sharing the exciting geology of the Copper Country," George is a past President of the Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club.
The Carnegie Museum of the Keweenaw's Natural History Seminar Series 2024 - "Rocks & Minerals of the Western UP -- Why We Love Them!" aims to build interest in the appreciation of local rocks and minerals through a series of discussions led by local rock and mineral leaders. Meant for a broad audience, the discussions are hoped to lure people outside to look at rocks and minerals, and to think about them in a modern context. The seminars are held in the Carnegie Museum of the Keweenaw's Community Room in Houghton, Michigan.
