Alexandra Pirici presents a major new site-specific installation with live action and music in the Historic Hall of Hamburger Bahnhof. The exhibition launches a new series of annual commissions in the museum’s Historic Hall to be opened in conjunction with Gallery Weekend Berlin.

With her expansive new work Attune, Alexandra Pirici explores the ways in which human beings – and their more-than-human counterparts – resemble, influence, and attune to one another to bring forth complex structures, whether chemical, physical, mineral or social. Pirici creates within the Historic Hall of Hamburger Bahnhof a vibrant imaginary landscape. She interweaves active sculptural elements with live action and musical pieces of her own choreography and composition. In this at once archaic and futuristic environment, chemical reactions, mineral formations, and physical phenomena perform alongside living bodies in acknowledgement and celebration of the continuum of living and non-living matter. Together these actors show how stable structures emerge from the random behaviors of atoms, molecules, and cells. The wonder of self-structuring matter comes to the fore.


Alexandra Pirici (b. 1982) is an artist with a background in choreography, whose artworks have been shown at the Venice Biennale – most recently in the 59th edition in the Central Pavilion in 2022 and at the 55th edition in 2013 in the Romanian Pavilion – as well as at the New Museum in New York in 2018, at Skulptur Projekte Münster in 2017, at Tate Modern London and Tate Liverpool in 2016, at Manifesta 10 St. Petersburg in 2014 and at the Centre Pompidou Paris in 2014, among many others.

This is the second collaboration between Pirici and Audemars Piguet Contemporary, following the program’s support of Pirici’s Encyclopedia of Relations (2022) at the 59th edition of the Venice Biennale. The new co-commission enables the artist to develop her practice at a larger scale, incorporating both fixed physical structures alongside live action.

Alexandra Pirici präsentiert im Hamburger Bahnhof die neue, ortsspezifische Installation „Attune“ mit Live-Aktion und Musik. Das raumgreifende Werk bildet den Auftakt einer neuen Reihe von Auftragsarbeiten für die Historische Halle des Museums, die jährlich zum Gallery Weekend Berlin eröffnet.

Alexandra Pirici erforscht mit ihrer raumgreifenden Arbeit „Attune“ (Einstimmen) die Art und Weise, wie Menschen – und ihre mehr-als-menschlichen Mitwesen – einander ähneln, sich wechselseitig beeinflussen und sich aufeinander einstellen, um komplexe Strukturen hervorzubringen, seien es chemische, physikalische, mineralische oder soziale. Pirici lässt in der Historische Halle des Hamburger Bahnhof eine dynamische imaginäre Landschaft entstehen. Sie verwebt aktive skulpturale Elemente mit Live-Aktion und polyphonen Musikstücken, die sie selbst choreografiert und komponiert hat. In diesem zugleich uralt und futuristisch wirkenden Raum treten chemische Reaktionen, mineralische Formationen und physikalische Phänomene neben lebenden Körpern auf, um das Kontinuum zwischen lebender und nicht lebender Materie anzuerkennen und zu feiern. Gemeinsam veranschaulichen diese Akteur*innen wie aus einem zufälligen Grundrauschen von Atomen, Molekülen und Zellen stabile Strukturen entstehen. Das Wunder der sich selbst organisierenden Materie tritt in Erscheinung.

Die Wurzeln der Künstlerin Alexandra Pirici (Jahrgang 1982) liegen in der Choreografie. Ihre Werke wurden sowohl bei der Biennale in Venedig – zuletzt 2022 bei der 59. Biennale im zentralen Pavillon und 2013 bei der 55. Biennale im rumänischen Pavillon – als auch 2018 im New Museum in New York, 2017 bei den Skulptur Projekten Münster, 2016 in der Tate Modern London und der Tate Liverpool, 2014 bei der Manifesta 10 St. Petersburg sowie im Centre Pompidou in Paris präsentiert, um nur einige zu nennen. Dies ist die zweite Zusammenarbeit zwischen Pirici und Audemars Piguet Contemporary, nachdem das Programm bereits Piricis „Encyclopedia of Relations“ (2022) zur 59. Ausgabe der Biennale von Venedig unterstützt hat. Der neue Auftrag ermöglicht es der Künstlerin, ihre Praxis in größerem Maßstab weiterzuentwickeln und neben Live-Aktion auch feste physische Strukturen einzubeziehen.
