Initiated following the “immaterial retrospective” they presented at the Venice Biennial in 2013, the Public Collection project by the Romanian artists Alexandra Pirici and Manuel Pelmus presents an exploration of artworks both historical and recent and iconic and forgotten by reactivating them via the body during a “continuous action” carried out by a group of performers.
Invited jointly by Casino Luxembourg and Mudam Luxembourg to celebrate their double anniversary – the twentieth anniversary of the former and the tenth of the latter – on this occasion Alexandra Pirici and Manuel Pelmus are presenting a new phase of Public Collection. Designed as two chapters of the same project, the collaboration between the two institutions has offered the artists the opportunity to look more closely at the history of art in Luxembourg.
By approaching art history in terms of immateriality and memory they present a reflection on the way that history is built on the role of institutions and the importance of artworks in our lives.
