I feel like I've played around with the cheap house paints enough for a while - it was fun experimenting with different colour combinations which I couldn't afford to buy in large quantities of artist quality pant, but you really do get better results using 'proper' paint. Yesterday's pour and this one are the first in a while where I've used all the same brand artist quality paint in the pour and I think it shows in the stunning results.
That said, I have had some fantastic results using a mixture of decent and cheap paints previously - videos 22 and 27 (coasters and placemats) both had a house paint in the mix and yet had beautiful cells. Video 17 (pebbles on the beach) and video 10 (Black and Blue) both had a mixture of decent paints with one cheap house paint in each pour and they are both in my top 5 favourites.
For me, the most obvious different in using just good quality paints are how stable and well formed the cells are - something which people often ask me about (how do I get big cells like yours?)... the two most important things (aside from including silicone) to get big stable cells are the right viscosity and good quality paint... in my opinion at least.
Paints used in this one were Winsor and Newton Titanium White, Powder Blue, Winsor Violet and Ultramarine, with about 20% Winsor and Newton Gloss Medium and a little tap water to achieve the required viscosity. Finally, 3 drops of silicone per colour.
