I took my Laser ILCA 6 (Radial) out solo from Christchurch Sailing Club into Christchurch Harbour on a windy evening, with gusts hitting 25 knots. It turned into a wild session of fast sailing, planing reaches, and plenty of capsizes along the way.
Was I crazy to go out alone in those conditions? You’ll see the chaos, the fun, and why sailing in heavy winds is such an addictive challenge. From flat-out blasts across the harbour to dragging across the harbour floor, this solo dinghy session had it all.
If you enjoy Laser sailing, dinghy racing, or just watching the thrill (and spills!) of sailing in strong winds, this one’s for you.
