Tough Choices: Sticking with the TransAm or Switching Routes? TransAm Cycling Adventure | Ep. 5

In this video, I continue my journey across Montana, following the classic Trans America Bicycle Trail. The ride kicks off with more challenging and nerve-wracking highway stretches, where narrow shoulders and close passes by large vehicles kept me on edge. These roads really made me question whether I should stick to the traditional route or switch to the Bike Nonstop route, which diverges in just a couple of hundred miles.

Despite the tough start, the journey had its highlights. I stopped at a cool hostel in Jackson, MT, where I got to relax and recharge, and later, I was thrilled to discover an incredible cyclist-only shelter in Twin Bridges, MT, maintained entirely through donations. These spots were a much-needed respite after the stress of the highways, and they reminded me of the unique community and camaraderie that come with touring.

As I ride through Montana, the decision of whether to stay on the ACA TransAm route or switch to the Bike Nonstop TransAm route weighs heavily on my mind. The idea of escaping the traffic and exploring quieter roads is tempting, especially after the intense highway riding I've faced.

For now, I’m sticking to the original plan, but I’m seriously considering a change when the routes split. Stay tuned as I navigate these decisions and continue to soak in the breath-taking landscapes Montana has to offer.
