Paul Caneiro's wife and daughters say police pressured them into giving statements while their family members were being found dead 11 miles away.
Lt. Christopher Brady, the lead Ocean Township detective, took the stand today and faced tough questions about how his department handled the Caneiro family on November 20, 2018. The family was held at the police station for nearly 12 hours. They learned through media reports that four relatives, including two children, had been murdered. They wanted to leave, change clothes, and process what was happening. Instead, they were kept until 11 p.m. and asked to give formal statements.
The defense dropped a bombshell: the family told them they felt "mistreated" and "pressured" by police that day. The prosecution had never heard this allegation before. The judge allowed the question over objection. Brady denied any knowledge of officers pressuring the family, but the accusation is now in front of the jury.

📖 CASE BACKGROUND
November 20, 2018: Firefighters found Keith Caneiro, 50, shot five times on his front lawn. Inside the burning mansion: his wife Jennifer, 45, and children Jesse and Sophia, all stabbed. The children died from smoke inhalation.
Hours earlier, a fire broke out at Paul's home eleven miles away. Prosecutors call it a "ruse" to divert suspicion. The motive: Keith had discovered Paul stealing from their businesses and family trusts, and sent an email cutting off Paul's $225,000 salary the night before.
Paul Caneiro, 59, has been jailed without bail for over seven years. If convicted, he dies in prison.
