Hey, everybody. Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2024 GMC Sierra 3500, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs for the rear axle. But before we get into that, let's take a couple minutes, check these out and make sure they're gonna be right for you. One of the things that we like to do is some before and after testing. That way we can actually feel if the airbags are actually going to make an improvement.
So right now we have our factory suspension. We'll get some weight back here, run through our course and see how it does. (forklift humming) Got some weight in the bed and you know, the suspension definitely squatted down for sure, but how it looks is one thing, how it's gonna feel and ride is completely a different story. So let's go take it for a spin. So the first thing I noticed when I hopped in the truck is that the front's definitely lifted up a little bit and personally not the ideal way to drive, at least in my opinion.
But what we're gonna do is go over a couple bumps here and I like to, you know, get some energy going through the chassis and the suspension and not as bad as I thought to be honest with you. This is a pretty heavy duty truck, but I feel like there's definitely room for improvement. When I'm hitting the bump it's kind of just floaty, you know, it hits the bump and just kind of sloppy and all over the place. You feel a suspension when you hit it. It's you know, kind of slams down if you will.
Then has a hard time kind of recovering, you know, and rebounding there. So I can only imagine too, like I said, this thing's pretty heavy duty. If you had a lot more weight back there, everything would definitely be amplified in terms of that. So we'll see how it does once the Air Springs are on, I feel like there will definitely be an improvement. What we'll do now is some evasive maneuvering, if you will.
And usually from my past experience, this is where suspension enhancements are really gonna help out. So I'll gain a little speed, we'll get through this clearing here and make some sweeping style turns. And just like I thought with this one you tend to get a lot of body roll and what that means, you know, you feel that truck getting sloppy, wanting to lay over and then you have to really kind of crank on that wheel to get everything back under control and make it feel a little more planted again. And like I said, you know, that's just about every single vehicle from my experience that does that type of thing. And you know, with the suspension enhancements it should really help combat that and make your driving experience a lot better. So we'll see what happens. Now that, you know we, kind of establish how the truck rides without a suspension enhancement, we actually have the airbags on now and put the same amount of weight in the bed of the truck and it's actually at the factory ride height with only 52 pounds of air in the bags. And I know that because when the truck was unloaded the factory suspension, I put a piece of blue tape around our shock absorber where the two pieces kind of met. And that's right exactly where it is now with that amount of air pressure. So kind of just goes to show, you know, these are so adjustable, don't take a whole lot of air to make a big difference. But with that said, let's go ahead and go for a ride again. Just sitting in the truck it feels better, it's a more comfortable ride. It's level, you know, we're not pointed up, pointed up at the sky like we we're before and we're gonna do the same thing, go over our bumps and kind of see how it feels. And even just hitting those first couple can tell it's better for sure, a lot more forgiving. I feel like the suspension, you hit that bump and beforehand you're just kind of floating super sloppy all over the place. This one you can feel it hit and then feel that suspension rebound and kind of level the truck back out. So definitely an improvement as far as that goes. And I don't feel like we're getting kind of tossed around nearly as much either. Like I said before we we're floating all over the place. This makes the truck feel a lot more planted for sure. The bumps completed. We will get to our evasive maneuvering and see what happens here. I got a feeling it's gonna be like the majority of the other vehicles and show some imp
