Whether it’s called a cylinder, dewar, tank, or vacuum flask; there are safe methods to use when transferring liquid nitrogen.
1) Start in a well-ventilated location
2) Prepare your tools, and wear personal protective equipment
3) Place the cylinder at the proper height next to the liquid nitrogen source
4) Choose a transfer line that’s 6’ or longer
5) Carefully hand-tighten the nut onto the liquid valve
6) Wear cryogenic gloves before using a wrench to gently secure
7) Fill your container slowly
8) Stop when vapors disperse onto the floor, or the liquid begins to splash out
9) Slowly close the valve
10) And only move your container once gases disperse and it’s safe to do so.
