Actin filaments are thin strands of actin that form the scaffolding to which muscle fibers are attached. Each filament is made up of multiple subunits called globular actin or G-actin associations. The G-actin associations spontaneously polymerize into a filamentous structure. Actin filaments are capable of movement even though they have no ATPase activity.
Actin filaments are one of the major building blocks of our cells. They form part of a complex network that allows our bodies to move and work.
