Kokomo Marbles Identifications: Part 2

Kokomo Opalescent glass marbles are believed to be produced between 1939 to about 1943 in Kokomo, Indiana at the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company which is still in operation today.
Their marble rolling machine was purchased, and later sold back to the Peltier Glass Company in 1939. Many of the raw materials that they used to produce the marbles were shared by Peltier as well. The marble-making venture was the company’s attempt to put their waste glass from their stained sheet glass products to good use. Kokomo abandoned the marble making production some time before World War II, as they may have had some difficulty with either the production, or sales of the marbles. Thie short time frame of thier production, and small distribution makes their marbles quite rare to find, highly collectable and sometimes very pricey in the marbles market . The prices on Kokomo marbles is still volatile today and will depend on the condition and attractiveness of each particular piece.

In this Part 2 upload, we spend day 1 and 3 of our Kokomo tour viewing the marbles collection of “Shades Of Glass” author and Kokomo native Ken Humphrey. We inspect, identify and discuss the collectable marbles they produced from examples that were either dug from the grounds, or obtained from ex-employees and others who were linked to, or inherited their marbles. Ken has some insightful stories to share from his Kokomo collection.

We also view the David Tamulevich Kokomo collection, which was inherited from glass marbles book author “Greenberg’s Guide To Marbles” Dennis Webb years ago. We focus on some of the more recognizable Kokomo marble models here and look at many of the more obscure examples with crisp, clean photos.

Included in this upload are film clips of the factory grounds, and some of the stained glass windows at Kokomo Opalescent Glass thanks to our Kokomo tour guide Kathy. A big thank you to Ken, David and Kathy for sharing their time and expertise with us !
