This video is a comparison review between of the Hoka Clifton7 and Hoka Clifton 8. The retail price is $130.00 U.S. dollars. Although you can often find the Clifton 7 on sale currently for around $100.00 U.S. dollars. They are a neutral road shoe that I ordered true to size. The Clifton 7 weight 9.1oz or 256g for a U.S. men's size 9 on my scales while the Clifton 8 came in a little lighter weight 8.9oz or 252g. Both the Hoka Clifton 7 & 8 can accomplish many of your daily workouts including slow paced easy workouts and those times when you want to do a little speed work as well. They feature a soft engineered mesh upper in the toe box that has plenty of room to be able to splay your toes. I found the upper material on the Clifton 7 to have more stretch making it more difficult to achieve and maintain a lockdown feeling across my mid foot. The eyelet chain in both is a traditional or classic style. Hoka did include the additional eyelet so you can run with a runners knot. The tongue is gusseted in both running shoe models. They are both well padded and very comfortable. Hoka added additional padding specifically in the tongue of the Clifton 8 from the previous Clifton 7 version. The Clifton 8 does feel a bit warm overall, in part to the additional padding. The collar and tab are well padded with a slight achilles heel flare on the tab that is very comfortable with no real change here from he 7 to the 8 with the exception of the type of material that Hoka used. The material on the Hoka Clifton 8 is slightly softer to the touch. Nether models feature a pull tab but you can use the heal flare to assist you. The heel counter in each has plenty of structure that adds a little stability. Hoka did add some plastic material in the heel counter of the 8 and gave it a cloth like texture. The midsole features a compression molded EVA foam in each. The Clifton 8 EVA foam was reformulated to add a little more of a springy and cushioned ride over the Clifton 7 that makes it a lighter with a tad more energy return. The outsole has tons of blown rubber from the heel to toe that adds durability and traction. Hoka did change the outsole rubber placement on the Hoka Clifton 8 leaving a little less exposed EVA foam in the mid foot section of the shoe. Hoka also changed the direction of the flex grooves to run on a diagonal rather than straight across as featured in the Hoka Clifton 7. I feel like this adds a to a more natural feeling as you move through your gait because it lines up more with the mechanics of my stride. Overall I think that Hoka made just enough changes to the Hoka Clifton 8 to make it worth buying. Thank you for watching and have a great day!
