Sneeuberg is the highest peak in the Cederberg wilderness area standing at 2027m. We hiked up from Eikeboom on a Friday afternoon and arrived at the hut just before dark where we overnighted. This hike took us 2 hours. The next morning we set off at 0730 and arrived at the summit of Sneeuberg a little after 1100. It's a beautiful but challenging hike and a solid level of fitness is required.
In order to summit the peak properly (reaching the trig beacon) you'll need be comfortable scrambling at a C grade as there is a fair amount of exposure near the top. We used a 10 metre rope and had a few cams on hand. The rope certainly came in handy protecting some of the moves on the way back down.
The views from the top of the entire Cederberg Conservancy are amazing, with Tafelberg and the Wolfberg Arch in clear view. After a short stop at the hut to pick up our backpacks, we then continued the descent back to the car at Eikeboom where we arrived at 1630. A long but enjoyable day out!
