One of two short films which were both directly inspired by the work of John Cage, but which also owe a debt to Steve Reich (especially Reich's early tape loop pieces). The video track is identical in both pieces, but the audio track is different. The six videos of the flashing LEDs have not been manipulated in any way to deliberately create a composition - any sense of composition comes from the random interplay between the LEDs flashing at different rates. Each LED is assigned a different set of notes on the prepared piano, and these are repeated in the same sequence over and over again. The LED's which are permanently on are represented by the shortwave radio sounds. The suggestion here is of Indian classical music, with it's use of drone and melody (or perhaps of the the played and sympathetic strings). Many thanks to Kurt James Werner for the prepared piano samples, and to Wireless Static for the shortwave radio recordings.
