The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) hosted a webinar on 19 November 2024, titled "Why the Statement on the Recognition of Editors and Peer Reviewers?" The keynote by Prof Keyan Tomaselli explored the significance of the recently approved Statement on the Recognition of Editors and Peer Reviewers. This address highlighted why recognising the often-overlooked contributions of editors and reviewers is essential for maintaining academic standards. Prof Tomaselli discussed the critical relationships between editors, authors, administrators, and publishers, as well as offered a holistic perspective on the role of editorial activities as foundational elements of academic progress and the cultivation of vibrant research communities.
