गर्मी में किडनी मरीज कितनी मात्रा में पानी पिएं | Safe Water Intake for CKD Patients in Summer
One of the most common concerns kidney patients have during summer is: “How much water should I drink based on my condition?” As temperatures rise, the body needs more fluids, but what if there’s already swelling? In this video, Dr. Puru Dhawan explains how kidney patients can manage their water intake safely, whether they have swelling or not.

Swelling (or edema) is a sign that your body is holding on to too much fluid. Many kidney patients unknowingly worsen their condition by drinking excess water. This trapped fluid can travel to the lungs, especially while lying down, leading to breathlessness and even life-threatening issues.

One major worry is: “Won’t less water harm my body’s ability to flush out toxins?” No, if done right. Take small sips, around 50 ml—only when you genuinely feel thirsty, such as when your lips or throat are dry. Avoid large, unnecessary gulps. This helps maintain balance without adding strain to your kidneys.

If there’s no swelling, drinking around 100 ml of water when thirsty is generally safe. But don’t skip regular check-ups. Keep your total protein levels and thyroid function within range, both can affect fluid retention. Even without symptoms, caution is key. Early care today can prevent serious complications tomorrow.
