304 Detour 2025 Hardcore Dual Sport Riding in the heart of West Virginia on the 24 Husqvarna FE501S

I was invited to the 304 Detour in Fairmont West Virginia by Kane of Appalachian ADV. He was doing an intermediate off road training and needed a hand. The goal was to do the training at Wolfhaven Tree Farm in Grafton WV on Friday. Then on Saturday we would lead the group through the dual sport route while coaching and helping where we could. I have a feeling that if the rain had missed us the trails would have been challenging, but it poured all Friday night.

The next morning we headed out to Brunner Ridge Park for the riders meeting at 7am. Right after we were off to tackle the route that the Fairmont Dual Sport Riders (FDSR) had put together not knowing the wild ride we were in for. As I mentioned the rain made everything 10x more challenging than it would have otherwise been.

If you get a chance I highly recommend attending the 2026 304 Detour. FDSR have a saying "We aren't happy till you're unhappy" I think that's a good way to think about this event. Also look at Wolfhaven Tree Farm. They have an Airbnb that is amazing and super private. Worth checking out.
