In August 1984 ITN’s Sam Hall travelled to Greenland to assess life after the Home Rule Act granted the island increased self-governance from Denmark just five years prior. Whilst the act would grant Greenland broader control over more domestic affairs including fishing - Denmark would remain responsible for foreign affairs and defence policy. In 2009 Greenland would be granted further control over it's natural resources, though defence and foreign affairs remain the responsibility of Denmark.
Across three days, these rare news reports provide an ethnographic lens on daily life on the island during the Cold War, including the heavy reliance on natural resources and traditional industries such as seal hunting; struggling under the weight of international interest and pressure.
