Tapioca is naturally gluten-free, so it can serve as a wheat substitute in cooking and baking for people who are on a gluten-free diet. Kappa thalichathu can be served as an evening snack with chammanthi and black tea.
Ingredients :
1. Boiled Tapioca pieces - 1kg
2. Grated Coconut- 1cup
3. Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
4. Dry Red Chilly - 3to 4
5. Urud Dal - 1/4 tsp
6. Curry leaves
7. Coconut Oil - 2 to 3 tsp
8. Salt
Ingredients For Chutney:
1. Thick Curd - 1/2 cup
2. Half Coconut grated
3. Shallots - 2to 3
4. Green Chilly - 3
5. Salt accordingly
Method Of Chutney Preparation -
Grind grated coconut, green chilly, shallots to a fine paste. Add salt accordingly. Before serving add thick curd to this.Chutney is ready.
Method Of Kappa Kaduvaruthathu -
Remove the skin of tapioca and cut it into small chunks. Wash the tapioca in 2 to 3 batches of water this helps to remove the sand. In a wide vessel boil the tapioca pieces. We have to change the water once the water boils. and rock salt. This is to get rid of toxins from tapioca. Once tapioca is soft drain the excess water.
For tempering place pan on flame. Add coconut oil once the oil is hot add mustard seeds, dry red chilly, urudu dal, and curry leaves. Saute till urudu dal turns light brown in color.
Add boiled tapioca and mix well. Also, add grated coconut and salt if needed. Mix together nicely. Sprinkle some curry leaves. Kappa is ready to serve.
Delicious kappa kaduvaruthathu with curd chutney is ready to relish.
