Quando in Africa la pioggia finalmente si posa, la terra cambia tono, profumo, colore. Anche noi.

Il fango diventa un invito a giocare, e correre con l’Hilux dentro quella terra morbida sembra un modo per far parte del nuovo paesaggio. Attorno a noi gli animali festeggiano a modo loro: i piccoli roditori escono dai cespugli, il silenzio si scioglie, l’aria torna a vibrare.

La mattina rimette ordine tra i gesti che ormai conosciamo bene: chiudere la tenda, lavare le mani sporche di terra, sistemare la scala, ridere dell’ennesimo schizzo di fango. Ci muoviamo con sicurezza, come se la nostra casa sul tetto fosse nata con noi.

E mentre ripartiamo, capiamo che il viaggio ci sta insegnando qualcosa: lo sguardo non si posa mai, si allarga.

Così oggi ci spingiamo più a nord, verso una terra che sembra voler svanire. Il paesaggio si fa piatto, pallido, quasi bianco. Una “terra di nessuno” che non appartiene a nessuno tranne alla luce, sempre più chiara, sempre più irreale.

Ed è lì che ci fermiamo.
Ed è lì che lo sguardo trova la sua domanda più semplice:

“Guarda dove ti ho portato.”

Lo stupore di chi non immaginava esistessero colori così puri.
Il desiderio di fermare quel momento per sempre.

Con questo episodio si chiude la Trilogia dello Sguardo,
ma la ricerca — quella — non finisce mai.

💬 The infinite gaze: when you realise there is no such thing as “beyond”.

🎬 Final episode of the Gaze Trilogy

When the African rain finally fades, the land shifts — in texture, in scent, in light. And so do we.

The mud becomes an invitation, and driving the Hilux through it feels like joining the landscape as it wakes. Around us, animals celebrate in their own quiet way: tiny rodents appear between the roots, the silence softens, the savannah breathes again.

Morning unfolds through gestures we now know by heart: closing the rooftop tent, brushing off the dust, setting the ladder, laughing at the new splash of mud on our clothes. We move with confidence, as if our little home on the roof had always been ours.
And while we drive, we realise something: the gaze never rests — it expands.

So today we push further north, toward a land that seems to dissolve. The ground turns pale, almost white, a true no-man’s-land claimed only by the light, growing brighter and more surreal by the minute.

And there it happens.
That simple, disarming sentence:

“Look where I’ve brought you.”

The wonder of colours you never imagined.
The wish to freeze a moment that will never return in the same way.

This episode concludes the Gaze Trilogy —
but the search never really ends.
