TOKMOK [TOKMAK] CITY / MICRODISTRICT. KYRGYZSTAN

Brief information:
Tokmak (Tokmok) is a city of regional subordination in the Chui region of Kyrgyzstan.

According to citykr.kg sources, the micro districts are located south of the industrial zone, 8–10 km from the “old part of the city.”

Some facts about the settlement:
-- It is located in the north of Kyrgyzstan, in the Chui Valley, on the left bank of the Chu River, along which the border of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan passes in the area of ​​the city.
It was founded in the early 19th century (1825-1830) as a Kokand fortress near the ruins of the city of Suyab.
In 1867, Tokmak received the status of a city and became the center of the Tokmak district of the Semirechye region of the Turkestan Governorate-General.
In July 2014, Tokmak became a sister city of the Russian Volokolamsk.
As of 2025, the population of the city is 76,200 people.
The official language is Kyrgyz and Russian.

Some sights of Tokmak:
-- Burana Tower. Museum complex, which includes the tower itself, the remains of the citadel, as well as balbals, petroglyphs and a small museum.
Kegety Gorge and the waterfall of the same name. Located near the Burana Tower, 18 km from the city.
Mountain lake Kel-Tor. Located at an altitude of 2725 m above sea level.
