Andonian is known for his wild and unorthodox approach to wrestling. It makes for exciting match ups, because he catches people with his unique abilities.
Here is his last match at the 2024 NCAA tournament, where he placed 6th.
As a general rule, I subscribe to the orthodox approach. You first should master the fundamentals before doing anything wild out there in competition. For me, I only let it loose when there was a little time left on the clock and I was losing. That is when you can break away from the fundamentals and do risky stuff because you are losing anyways. For most of us mortals, you should stick to an orthodox game plan until that begins to fall apart with short time on the clock. Be weary of anyone who recommends emulating people who are extremely unorthodox—especially when you don’t have any fundamentals to speak of
