New Hope & Ivyland 40: Yuletide Steam in Bucks County | Santa's Steam Spectacular [4K]

Snow has blanketed the rails of the New Hope Railroad, arriving just in time to set the stage for a magical Christmas season. For the first time in over a decade, a White Christmas graced the region, accompanied by the timeless tradition of steam, with the New Hope Railroad's cherished locomotive, 40. This action-packed video showcases the consolidation as it takes on the festive role of powering Santa's Steam Spectacular excursions, traversing snow-covered landscapes and enchanting wintry woods.

New Hope & Ivyland 40 is a 2-8-0 Consolidation-Type locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works on December 2, 1925 for the Lancaster & Chester of South Carolina. In 1947, 40 was sold to Cliffside Railroad of North Carolina, becoming the biggest locomotive on the railroad, weighing in at 80 tons. In 1962, 40 was moved to the Reading shops in New Hope PA alongside Canadian National 4-6-0 1533. By 1974, 40 was fully restored for the New Hope Steam Railway, eventually becoming the railroad's main locomotive. In 2011, #40 went down for a FRA mandated 1472 and returned in time for the 2017 Winter Season on the NH&I. The whistle on 40 is a shop-built steel reproduction Reading 6 Chime.
