Was using water-based detergents appropriate for these 100-year-old seat covers?
Note: With the additional fraying and pulling out of square from the cleaning it is good that the owner plans to use these for a different application than seat covers. Sometimes the fabric can be re-wetted and stretched to return it to a “squarer” shape but there is risk. These weaves can tear/split during the process.
