Help! FAKE CLIP of ME Inserted In My Video Before Editing: What?

When we went into Descript to edit down a one-take 20 min video clip about Thomas Reid we found a short segment that we hadn't recorded. This piece, to make matters worse, was still me talking and there were no seams in the footage.
What you see is a cleaned up bit of the mystery clip, which we cut and saved. Original clip is deleted. This mystery clip is also degrading and its been hard to preserve the audio.
It was almost as if I lost track mid-stream and started doing something else for 30 seconds. After arguing and analyzing and being yelled at on Reddit, we can only guess that it is weird AI editing errors or a memory lapse. What is truly strange, is that the clip is mostly of me in a singing lesson. I am not a singer.
