Individual Virtual Environment & Sensor Simulation: Driver/Occupant Monitoring Simulation

#ITK Engineering has developed the #IVESS (Individual Virtual Environment & Sensor Simulation) framework to create a customizable, high-fidelity environment and sensor #simulation for testing computer vision functionalities in a virtual world.

This simulation uses custom rendering engines from the gaming industry to provide synthetic, low - level and object-level sensor data with whitebox interfaces for a toolchain-independent integration for open or closed loop testing. Various sensor types, such as radar, lidar, ultrasound and camera are simulated and can be customized to mimic real-life sensors.

The #virtualenvironment is extended with a driver and occupant monitoring simulation including highly customizable avatars, an infrared camera model and ground truth information of the scenario. This infrared camera model calculates the image based on the material parameters and their reflectivity of infrared light as well as the individual customized camera settings.
