Housing Authority Issued Vouchers & Housing
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program—often called Section 8—is the most extensive federal rental assistance program in the U.S., funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It helps low-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities afford safe, decent housing in the private rental market.
The Project-Based Voucher (PBV) program is a component of the federal Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program administered by local Public Housing Authorities (PHAs). Unlike regular tenant-based vouchers (where assistance follows the family to any eligible rental unit), PBVs are tied to specific housing units.
An Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) is a special type of rental assistance. HUD awards these vouchers to public housing agencies (PHAs) to help vulnerable individuals and families especially. Homeless (as defined by HUD), at risk of homelessness. Fleeing or attempting to escape domestic issues .Recently homeless and at high risk of housing instability.
State Issue Vouchers
A State-Issued Voucher (sometimes just called a State Voucher) usually refers to rental assistance or housing vouchers that are funded and administered at the state level, rather than through HUD’s federal Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program.
Low Income Housing
Low-income housing refers to affordable housing options for individuals and families with limited income. These programs are often supported by the government, housing authorities, or nonprofit organizations to ensure people can access safe and stable housing without paying more than 30% of their income on rent. Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Properties are privately owned apartments developed with federal tax credits, with capped and reserved rents for low-income households.
Section 811 is a HUD program called the Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities Program. It was created to help very low-income adults with disabilities live independently in the community by providing both affordable rental housing and access to supportive services.
Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program is a federal housing program run by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It was created to expand the supply of affordable housing with supportive services specifically for very low-income elderly households (generally defined as a household with at least one member aged 62 or older).
Continuum of Care Program
Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) is a type of housing assistance program in the U.S. designed to help individuals and families quickly exit homelessness and move into permanent housing. It’s short-term, focused on stability, and usually includes three main components: housing identification, rent and move-in assistance, and supportive services.
Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) is a housing model designed to provide long-term, stable housing combined with supportive services for people who are experiencing chronic homelessness or have significant disabilities, including mental health issues or substance disorders.
An Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) is a special type of rental assistance. HUD awards these vouchers to public housing agencies (PHAs) to help vulnerable individuals and families especially. Homeless (as defined by HUD), at risk of homelessness. attempting to escape domestic issues. Recently homeless and at high risk of housing instability.
